CYPRESS, CA- Cypress College men's basketball standout O'Shae Williams has accepted a scholarship offer to attend Trinity International University, where he will continue his basketball career next season.
Trinity, located in Deerfield, IL, competes in the National Christian College Athletic Association's (NCCAA) Chicago Collegiate Athletic Conference. "It's a really good culture there and they're family oriented. The atmosphere reminds me of Cypress and I believe their coaching staff can help get me to the next level," said Williams.
Williams, who came off the bench as a sixth man during his freshman season, led the Chargers in points (16.7), rebounds (5.7), assists (3.7), and steals (1.4) per game during his sophomore campaign. The freakishly athletic 6-4 guard closed out the regular season with the best game of his career, netting 40 points while grabbing 13 rebounds in an overtime loss to Santa Ana. His stellar season was rewarded with an All-Orange Empire Conference First Team selection. "The OEC is one of the best conferences in the state so it's helped me a lot. I've had to match up with guards who are playing division one basketball now, so I feel like I can play with any guard or big I'll see at Trinity," said Williams.
Despite his success with the Chargers, Williams is ready to put in the work and take his game to another level. "I know I have to work on shooting the three ball more consistently, but I feel like I can get to the rim whenever I want and either finish or get to the line. I just want to be a good role player next year. They have a lot of guys coming back so I just want to fit in and be able to play with them," said Williams.
The Pioneer High School alum plans to major in either communications or business and would like to pursue a professional basketball career overseas after graduation.
