Chargers grab second place in opening tournament

Lompoc, CA- The defending OEC champion Cypress men's golf team open the 2020 season at the PT Conception Open held at La Purisima Golf Club (Par 72) on Sunday and Monday.

The Chargers finished second out of 19 teams with a team score of 793. Freshman Luke Bartram and sophomore Matthew Wotherspoon each shot a 154 to finish tied for 3rd place in the individual finish. Cypress College shot the lowest team score of 398 on Monday. Preston Gomersall of Santa Barbara City shot a tournament best 150, which included a 71, the best round of the tournament.

Cypress did not play as they hoped throughout the tournament, but still secured second place after tying Mt. SAC in the final round. The tiebreaker was decided by the 6th man's score and Panos Pantazopoulos of Cypress edged out Tommy Chung of Mt. SAC on the final day. The Chargers will look to build on their second place finish as they look to defend their title in 2020.

Up Next: Men's golf will tee-off again on Feburary 3rd when they begin the OEC Tee-Off classic at Candlewood Country Club. The round will begin at 8AM.
